What’s Cooking?

It has been quite an unpredictable weather lately. Grade 6 students have been doing their own recording by constructing a barometer to find out how the atmospheric pressure is increasing and decreasing. Finally, to give it a rest, what could’ve been better than having a cuisine of one’s own. The grade six art was transformed into a cookery class in which students prepared their own recipes. They baked, cooked, fried, tossed, glazed and prepared toppings. It turned out to be a success. First prize went to Sarya and Mohamed for their cheese pizza, Soummaya was in the second place for her mouth watering apple streusel, and the third place went to Zoha for her hot sizzling vegetable rolls.

Alhamdu lillah, our Science Fair this year was once again a success. 23 projects and 28 children won bronze, silver or gold medallions and will be going on to the Windsor Regional Science Fair on April 3-5 at St. Clair College.

Science Fair Success in the Making

Our school science fair is just around the corner. It’s a fun and exciting time for everyone, and gives us as parents and teachers a chance to really see the creativity of our children. Much time is spent in teaching skills for success – skills that apply not only to this event, but to many other real-life circumstances in the future.

It will show you step by step what judges are looking for, and how to give a project a leading edge. You’ll learn about how to take a common idea and make it into a winning one, and what’s important to include in a project’s presentation. You’ll find things here that definitely don’t show up in regular science fair project books. And, for those students who will be representing our school at the regional fair, these tips are a must.

We recently held our 12th Annual Qur’an Competition for our Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 students. It was amazing to see young children memorizing the Allah’s words so well. Here are a few photos for you.

Student of the Month Theme: Respect for Others

With the Qur’an Competition beginning on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 our theme for the student of the month is most appropriate as Islam teaches us to respect others and to be kind to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Al-Hijra School Projects

The recent display of Grade 4’s Medieval castle project at Al-Hijra school was a blast. Students showed their motivation, hard work and highly impressive creative ideas in shaping the castles. This is not the first time that Al-Hijra students have demonstrated their abilities to create wonderful projects. Grade 4’s presentation was appreciated and supported by the entire school. The students have shown pride and full confidence in illustrating the theme ‘Medieval Castles.’
